The seller offers for sale this 1968 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Town Sedan, powered by a 7.5-litre V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. This partially restored example has benefited from a comprehensive programme of mechanical and cosmetic work, with approximately €23,159 invested. The engine has been fully rebuilt and tastefully modified with an Edelbrock aluminium intake manifold and a 650 cfm Demon four-barrel carburettor, and as part of the rebuild the engine no longer requires a lead additive. The car has covered approximately 10,000 km since the engine rebuild. The engine bay was completely redone, degreased, sanded, derusted, primed and repainted, with the entire process documented in photographs. The underside of the bonnet was fully refurbished and fitted with new insulation, while the boot was derusted, primed, painted and sealed with Owatrol, and a custom-made carpet in the body colour was produced by an upholsterer.
Further recent work includes a complete overhaul of the front steering assembly, comprising inner and outer tie rod ends, the tie rod, the idler arm, upper and lower axle bushings, brake shoes for the disc brakes, inner and outer anti-roll bar sets and both wheel brake cylinders. The battery was renewed last year, and the boot seal as well as the rear door seals were recently replaced; new front door seals are included with the car but not yet fitted. The car is equipped with power steering, comes from its third owner, and has been in the possession of the current seller since 2016. A valuation report from 2018 with a grade of 3+ accompanies the car, it holds a valid inspection, and the TÜV will be renewed upon sale.
The Delta 88 was Oldsmobile’s full-size flagship of the late 1960s, positioned above the Dynamic 88 and offering a blend of comfort, presence and effortless V8 power that defined the American automobile of the era. Introduced for 1965 and restyled with flowing fuselage-inspired lines for 1968, the Delta 88 combined generous proportions with Oldsmobile’s renowned Rocket V8 engines. The Custom Town Sedan represented a well-appointed variant within the range, and this particular car carries a notable production story as number 48 of 31,102 examples built, having rolled off the line in Southgate, California during the very first production weekend of the 1968 model year.
With its large-displacement V8, smooth automatic transmission and relaxed cruising character, the Delta 88 embodies the golden age of the American full-size sedan. Its combination of documented mechanical investment, early production provenance and distinctive period styling makes this example an appealing proposition for enthusiasts of classic American motoring.
