The seller offers for sale a 1996 Mercedes-Benz SL600 (R129) finished in the rare Designo LCP Vario Colour, a paint option available to only 20 cars worldwide, of which just 3 were built with the 6.0-litre V12 engine. This cabriolet is fitted with an automatic transmission, producing 394 horsepower from its twelve-cylinder engine. The seller is the second owner and holds the original German registration document and service book, stamped up to 270,000 km. Subsequent maintenance in Poland has been carried out by a specialist familiar with the R129 series.
The exterior is presenting in very well, having been repainted in its original vario colour. This finish changes shade depending on light, a striking effect. Some cosmetic imperfections include faded side rails, but the paint retains depth and visual appeal. The body retains its factory-widened fenders, specified to accommodate the iconic 18-inch AMG split wheels, which remain in good condition with nearly new Michelin tyres.
Inside, the cabin has been enhanced with extensive leather, carbon fibre trim with green stitching, and reupholstered seats.
Mechanically, the SL600 is solid, holds a valid technical inspection certificate and is ready to drive.
The Mercedes-Benz SL (R129) series, introduced in 1989, marked a significant design and engineering step for the brand. Styled by Bruno Sacco, the R129 is regarded as one of his finest works, balancing elegance and modernity in a design that has aged with grace. It was equipped with advanced features such as an automatically deploying roll bar, ADS suspension, and safety-focused construction that set new benchmarks in the 1990s.
The SL600 was the pinnacle of the lineup, featuring the 6.0-litre V12 engine that delivered unmatched smoothness and performance. With 394 hp, it offered effortless acceleration and refinement far beyond the smaller SL320 and SL500 variants. Cars specified with rare Designo options, such as the LCP Vario Colour and bespoke interior trims, commanded high original prices, in this case estimated at around 280,000 DM when new—over ten times the cost of a contemporary C-Class.
The panoramic roof option further enhanced the usability of the convertible, creating a bright and airy atmosphere in the cabin. Today, R129 models are gaining recognition as collectible modern classics, with limited-run specifications such as this one standing out as some of the most desirable. This particular car combines rarity, documented history, and careful preservation, offering an opportunity to acquire a unique piece of Mercedes-Benz heritage.
