The seller offers for sale this 1991 Mercedes-Benz 400E, powered by a 4.2-litre V8 petrol engine, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This W124-series sedan presents in an intriguing AMG-inspired specification, finished in Mercedes colour 199 gloss black over a light grey leather interior. The car has undergone a number of updates and refurbishments: the engine has been rebuilt and fitted with new timing chains, and the bodywork has been repainted with reproduction AMG wide-body components including flared front wings, side skirts and bumpers. The front seats have been retrimmed and fitted with AMG/Recaro-style upholstery, while the cabin also features a reproduction AMG steering wheel, new wood trim inlays and a new old-stock Alpine head unit with fully renewed wiring, speakers and speaker upholstery. Reproduction AMG Monoblock-style alloy wheels are fitted with tyres of the correct speed rating. The seller notes that most electrical features, including electric windows and air conditioning, are reported to be operational, though some items require attention: the headlining has partially detached in places, the rear seat leather has some dryness-related cracking, the seat-mirror-steering column memory module is non-functional, and there is a minor scratch on the front bumper on the passenger side. The odometer currently reads 134,000 km following the fitment of a replacement European instrument cluster.

The Mercedes-Benz 400E (W124) was produced between 1991 and 1993 and represented one of the most powerful variants of the acclaimed W124 E-Class range. Developed in close collaboration with Porsche — who assembled the 400E and 500E by hand at their Zuffenhausen plant — the model was fitted with the M119 V8 engine displacing 4.2 litres, producing 279 hp. Its relatively restrained exterior belied its performance credentials, making it something of a Q-car in period. The W124 platform is widely regarded as one of the most durable and well-engineered saloons of its era, and V8-engined examples remain sought after by enthusiasts today.
