The seller offers for sale a 1963 Lancia Flavia Coupe Rally edition, originally sold in Italy and imported to the Netherlands in 2015. This car, finished in dark blue with a black interior, has since been restored and upgraded for participation in historic tour and rally events.
This Flavia has been modified to suit competitive use, featuring a roll cage, Recaro seats with LTEC 4-point harnesses, Brantz rally equipment, a wood-trimmed sports steering wheel, and Cibié Oscar auxiliary lights. Other functional upgrades include a front-mounted oil cooler and Michelin 165/15 tires. The bumpers have been removed for a sportier appearance, and the grille has been replaced with a mesh version, although the original chrome parts are included in the sale.
The engine is a 1.8-litre flat-four (“boxer”) unit, known for its smoothness and low center of gravity. The engine has been rebuilt in the past and runs well. The braking, lighting and electrical systems are functional. The car has a valid Dutch inspection.
The bodywork has been refinished in dark blue paint. The body lines and exterior trim retain their correct proportions, and the car presents as a cohesive example of a sporting classic from the early 1960s.
The interior is equipped for competition use but retains visual appeal. The modified cockpit combines period styling with practical additions for historic rally use. The condition of the upholstery, trim, and controls is strong, and no replacements are currently required. While not presented as a concours vehicle, the car has been maintained with attention to function and reliability for use in classic motorsport settings.
The Lancia Flavia debuted in 1961 and was notable for being Italy’s first mass-produced car with front-wheel drive. Designed by Antonio Fessia, the Flavia was aimed at the upper-middle-class market and featured several advanced engineering features for its time. Early Flavias, like this 1963 model, were powered by a flat-four engine mounted longitudinally in front of the front axle, driving the front wheels via a manual gearbox.
The Flavia Coupe bodywork was styled and built by Pininfarina, lending the car a more refined and elegant appearance compared to the Berlina saloon. These coupes were not only luxurious but also agile and responsive, offering a unique driving experience within the Lancia lineup. The car’s rigid chassis and innovative engineering earned it praise for road manners, especially in challenging conditions.
Over time, the Flavia series saw several technical updates, but early models like this one are often preferred for their purer design and lighter construction. Though Lancia’s production volume was relatively low, the brand developed a strong motorsport following, especially in rallying—an image that this particular car embraces with its full rally conversion.
Today, a Flavia Coupe with documented history, tasteful modifications, and rally credentials is rare to find, especially in operational condition and with cosmetic integrity. This example, maintained for active use and still retaining original components such as the grille and wheel trims, provides a balanced opportunity for either rally entry or enjoyment on scenic drives.
