The private seller offers for sale this 1988 Jeep Comanche Laredo 4×4, powered by a 4.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, paired with an automatic transmission. This long-bed Comanche was purchased in Florida in 2004 and remained in long-term ownership until a restoration project was started in 2020. After completion, it was registered as a historic vehicle in 2022. It is finished in Pearl Black, which reveals subtle indigo metallic highlights in direct sunlight, and it is combined with a beige Laredo interior. The odometer reads 115,161 miles.
The restoration focused on durability, corrosion protection and drivability. The chassis was cryogenically stripped at minus 79°C, treated against corrosion and coated with epoxy primer, textured polyurethane protection and a ceramic resin coating, with cavity wax injected into the hollow sections. The factory Laredo equipment includes air conditioning, power windows and central locking, and the cabin features reupholstered beige leather seats and a period-style Blaupunkt radio.
Mechanically, the truck has received a reconditioned 4HO cylinder head, a new timing set, a complete gasket set, a starter motor, an oil pan, a power steering pump and a steering box rebuild kit, and the air conditioning has been serviced with a new receiver-drier and seals. Further upgrades include a heavy-duty Dana 44 rear axle, a full stainless steel exhaust with a MagnaFlow silencer, Rusty’s suspension springs and shock absorbers, an adjustable front track bar, quick-disconnect sway bar links and a refurbished braking system with new hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders and pads. The sale includes registration documents, restoration photographs, maintenance records and parts invoices.
The Comanche was introduced in 1986 as the pickup version of the Jeep Cherokee XJ, sharing its innovative unibody construction with a separate bed. It was the only compact pickup of its era built on a unibody platform, and the long-bed version remained in production until 1992. The 4.0-litre inline six, introduced for 1987, gave the Comanche strong torque and a reputation for longevity that still makes it a favourite among Jeep enthusiasts.
Today, good Comanches are increasingly hard to find, as most were used hard as work trucks. This Laredo 4×4 combines the classic boxy styling of the late 1980s with carefully chosen upgrades that enhance both reliability and driving enjoyment.
