The seller offers for sale this 1974 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade, an iconic American 4×4 off-roader equipped with a 3.8-litre inline-six engine and a manual gearbox. This example runs on LPG and was imported to the Netherlands in 2006. Since then, it has spent much of its time in storage, primarily kept inside and out of the elements.

Finished in a classic open-top configuration with a brown soft top and removable side doors, this CJ-5 reflects the utilitarian design that made these Jeeps legendary. The seller notes the vehicle was last driven in September and functioned as expected at that time. While the mileage reads 38,596 miles, the accuracy of this figure is not documented.

The body is constructed largely from non-metallic panels with the exception of the hood, which shows some blemishes. The paintwork is generally tidy but would benefit from touch-up work if a freshened look is desired.

The interior is basic, as expected for this model, and features two non-original cloth seats in good condition. Behind the seats lies the LPG tank. The dashboard appears largely functional, with most switches operational. Lap belts are installed, and the soft top, which includes detachable doors, is present and free of tears.

Mechanically, the vehicle is reported to be in running condition, although the engine does currently require attention to start properly after an extended storage period.

There is no current inspection certificate, but due to its age, the vehicle is exempt from periodic inspection in the Netherlands.

First launched in 1954 and produced through 1983, the Jeep CJ-5 was one of the longest-running and most recognisable variants of the Civilian Jeep (CJ) series. Derived from the military Jeep lineage, the CJ-5 adopted many of the core design elements that made its predecessors famous—rugged durability, open bodywork, and go-anywhere capability.

The CJ-5 Renegade, offered as a more stylised version of the base model, typically featured cosmetic and functional upgrades, including decals, fender flares, and improved interiors. This particular example, with its high-riding stance and LPG conversion, speaks more to a practical, driver-focused adaptation of the classic design.

CJ-5s have earned their place in the classic 4×4 market thanks to their simple mechanics, excellent aftermarket support, and nostalgic appeal. Their short wheelbase and light weight make them capable off-roaders, though comfort and refinement are understandably limited.

Today, many examples have been heavily modified, restored, or lost to corrosion and hard use, making any intact and roadworthy CJ-5 a relatively rare find in Europe. While this one shows signs of age and use, it offers a solid foundation for further cosmetic or mechanical restoration—or can be enjoyed as-is for light off-road or leisure use.
