The private seller offers for sale this 1984 Jaguar XJ12 Series III, powered by a 5.3-litre V12 petrol engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in dark green metallic with a beige leather interior, burr walnut veneer and matching carpets, this XJ12 presents the classic Jaguar combination of luxury and grace. The odometer reads 225,000 km. The current owner acquired the car from the son of the first owner, and the original dealer plate is still fitted to the car. The service book is present, although the seller notes that not all maintenance has been recorded in it in recent years.

According to the seller, the gearbox was overhauled approximately 30,000 km ago, with the invoice available. The rear brake discs have also been renewed, a substantial job on this model due to the inboard mounting of the rear brakes. At some point in the past, the car was resprayed in its current colour, and the paintwork now shows normal signs of use. The seller notes some rust on the left front wing, a small rust bubble below the left-hand corner of the rear window and a spot at the bottom of one of the doors, all of which are shown in the photos. The car has recently passed its roadworthiness inspection.

The Jaguar XJ was launched in 1968 and was the last saloon in whose development Sir William Lyons was personally involved. The V12 version followed in 1972, making the XJ12 the only mass-produced twelve-cylinder four-door saloon in the world at the time. The Series III, introduced in 1979, received a subtle restyling by Pininfarina with a higher roofline, larger glass areas and flush door handles. From 1981, the V12 was fitted with the HE (High Efficiency) cylinder heads, improving economy without sacrificing its legendary smoothness. The Series III XJ12 proved so popular that it remained in production until 1992, outliving the six-cylinder Series III.

What makes the XJ12 so special is the combination of its low, elegant silhouette and the silky V12 under the bonnet, which delivers effortless performance and near-silent cruising. Inside, the deep leather seats, walnut veneer and full array of round instruments create the unique atmosphere of a traditional British luxury saloon. With its independent rear suspension, the XJ12 offers a ride quality that was considered among the best in the world in its day. This dark green example with documented history and an overhauled gearbox offers an attractive entry into the world of V12 Jaguar motoring.
