The seller offers for sale this 1948 Hudson Commodore 6 sedan, one of the early examples of the first “step-down” generation introduced in late 1947. This innovative design, with its integrated body and chassis, gave the Commodore a low stance and superior handling compared to its contemporaries. Originally registered in Pennsylvania, the car was later exported to the United Kingdom before being purchased by the current owner in 2019 and registered in the Netherlands. The Hudson was repainted in Britain, showing a glossy finish with some small imperfections such as dust particles under the paint and minor marks on the left front door.
The interior remains largely original, featuring intact factory plastics, an undamaged headliner, and fabric seats with light wear on the driver’s backrest. The dashboard instruments and electronics all function correctly. Mechanically, the car is in solid condition and drives smoothly, with recent maintenance including a brake overhaul and general service. It is equipped with overdrive and comes with various spare parts.
The Hudson Commodore 6 was a symbol of American innovation in the post-war era, introducing advanced engineering and refined styling. Its monocoque “step-down” construction provided a lower center of gravity, offering impressive stability and comfort for long-distance cruising. Today, the Commodore stands as a distinctive collectible, appreciated for its smooth performance, striking proportions, and historical significance.
