The seller offers for sale this 1987 Daimler Double Six, the refined V12 variant of Jaguar’s XJ12 Series III luxury saloon. Powered by a 5.3-litre 12-cylinder petrol engine and fitted with an automatic transmission, this model represents the peak of traditional British luxury motoring in the 1980s. With a smooth ride, commanding presence, and deeply upholstered interior, the Double Six was a flagship vehicle for executives and dignitaries alike.
This example was imported to the Netherlands from Switzerland in 2012 by The Gallery Brummen. In 2016, it was purchased by the current owner and has since received regular maintenance, including mechanical servicing by a Jaguar specialist (English Car Repair). It is currently in good mechanical order, Lights, indicators, and braking systems are functioning properly, and the vehicle has a valid Dutch inspection.
The bodywork presents in overall good condition, with some minor paint imperfections and a small area of surface rust noted on the hood.
The interior is well maintained, with some wear noted in the boot area where the leather shows slight discoloration. The seats, dashboard, and trim retain their original appearance, reflecting light wear consistent with the age and mileage of the car. The overall impression is of a well-kept, usable classic. The only known issue is a non-functional radio antenna.
Mechanically, the car retains its original configuration and features factory power steering. No disc brake conversion or additional technical modifications are noted. The car comes with four original rims and winter tyres, adding practical value for seasonal use or extended ownership in colder climates.
The Daimler Double Six is the luxury-badged twin of the Jaguar XJ12, differentiated by additional interior refinements, badging, and bespoke features that positioned it above the Jaguar equivalent. The Series III variant, produced from 1979 to 1992, benefitted from a restyled body by Pininfarina, modernized bumpers, and a more contemporary dashboard layout.
At the heart of the Double Six is the legendary Jaguar V12—an engine known for its smoothness, torque, and refinement rather than outright performance. Though complex and relatively heavy, the V12 in this generation had been continually refined for reliability and smoother operation. At a time when many rivals still used V8s or straight-sixes, the Double Six offered unmatched serenity at cruising speeds.
This model competed with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz 560SEL and BMW 7-Series, offering a uniquely British alternative that emphasized comfort and craftsmanship over clinical precision. Daimler, a historic marque in its own right, lent the car an air of prestige and exclusivity—often associated with government fleets, embassies, and ceremonial transport in the UK and abroad.
Well-preserved examples are now appreciated for their stately looks, plush ride, and collectible value. With its clear ownership history, documented repairs, and sound mechanical condition, this 1987 Daimler Double Six offers a classic motoring experience at an accessible entry point.
