The seller offers for sale this 1950 Daimler DB18 4-Passenger Drophead Coupé, powered by a 2,522 cc cast-iron inline six-cylinder engine, paired with a pre-selector gearbox.
This particular car carries coachwork by Barker & Co., the renowned London coachbuilder, and was fully restored in 2006/2007 by the then-chairman of the DLOC, the British Daimler & Lanchester Owners Club. The current owner purchased the car in 2007 and has used it regularly ever since. Since acquisition, a number of considered improvements have been made, including the fitting of an electric fuel pump and electronic ignition. The hood, fluid flywheel and rear fenders have also been replaced. The bodywork is described as structurally sound, including the wooden frame, with good paintwork and chrome throughout. The interior presents in good condition with some signs of regular use, as befitting a car that has been driven rather than stored.

The Daimler DB18 was produced between 1939 and 1953, with the post-war series resuming production in 1945. The model represented the upper tier of Daimler’s peacetime range and was frequently supplied with coachbuilt bodywork by independent firms. The drophead coupĂ© body style was among the most desirable configurations, combining open-air touring with a degree of refinement suited to formal use. DB18s in coachbuilt form were used by dignitaries and senior officials across the British Empire, particularly in India and Malaysia, where the combination of prestige, mechanical smoothness and durability made them well regarded.

The pre-selector gearbox, a long-standing feature of Daimler motorcars, allows gear changes to be made without a conventional clutch action, contributing to the relaxed driving character for which the model is known.
