The seller offers for sale a 1969 Daf 55 T coupe prepared for rally use and restored in 2016–2017. The car retains its revised Variomatic drive yet benefits from a 1.4-litre B14 engine with a Renault Alpine–type cylinder head, Catcams performance crankshaft, refreshed Weber carburetors, new pistons/liners/bearings, an oil cooler, and sump guard. The shell was media-blasted, repainted in its original green, and the arches were steel-flared with widened suspension. A Biesheuvel Autosport roll cage was installed, the fuel tank relocated to the boot, the dashboard reworked to integrate additional gauges, and a new wiring loom fitted. It starts without hesitation, runs clean with no blue or white smoke, and the engine exhibits no unusual noises. The gearbox shifts smoothly, though some drivetrain noise is noted. The interior features supportive bucket seats with minimal wear. No accident damage is reported, and the car is said to be rust-free. Minor items left to refine include shuddering when pulling away, extra sound insulation for comfort, and fitting a rally computer. The car has a valid technical inspection certificate.
The Daf 55 occupies a distinctive niche among compact European coupes of the late 1960s. Powered in period by a Renault-sourced engine and paired with DAF’s hallmark Variomatic CVT, the 55 offered smooth, fuss-free driving with surprising traction and pace for its class. The coupe’s clean lines and modest dimensions make it a friendly city companion, while its rally and rallycross exploits cemented an enthusiastic following. Today, a thoughtfully upgraded and freshly painted example with chassis, safety, and powertrain enhancements appeals to drivers seeking vintage charm with purposeful character. This model’s simplicity, light weight, and docile CVT make it approachable, while the uprated hardware promises engaging back-road fun.
