Description

Citroën Burton | 1975

Highlights:

– Built in 2004 based on a 2CV chassis
– Metallic champagne paint and leather seats
– Classic two-cylinder 600cc engine with manual transmission
– Good mechanical and cosmetic condition

The seller offers for sale this 1975 Citroën Burton, a custom-built roadster based on the iconic 2CV platform. Assembled by the current owner in 2004, the car blends vintage charm with a distinctive open-top design. An engaging alternative to more conventional classics. The Burton is powered by Citroën’s well-known air-cooled, 600cc two-cylinder engine, coupled to a manual gearbox.

Finished in a metallic champagne colour, the bodywork is described as being in good condition. Built using fiberglass panels on a 2CV chassis, Burtons don’t have any rust issues on the body. This example benefits from the dry Spanish climate, contributing to its preserved condition.

The interior is upholstered in leather, including the front seats and rear bench, and remains in good condition. Though not luxurious, the layout is functional and characterful, with minimal wear noted. The dashboard and controls maintain the simplicity of the 2CV donor, offering a lightweight and focused driving experience.

This Burton does not currently have a valid inspection, with the last recorded test having taken place in Belgium two years ago. All lighting systems are operational, and the car has not been involved in any known accidents or incidents.

The Burton is a Dutch-designed roadster kit car that allows owners to convert a Citroën 2CV or Dyane into a lightweight, classically styled cabriolet. Introduced in the early 2000s, the Burton retained the reliable underpinnings of the 2CV, including its simple suspension, drivetrain, and mechanical layout, while dramatically changing the outward appearance.

Created by Dutch brothers Dimitri and Iwan Goebel, the Burton was inspired by 1930s and 1940s sports cars. The idea was to create something unique and fun using a widely available, mechanically basic donor car. Because the design is based on an existing platform, costs remain low, and parts availability is excellent.

With a curb weight of well under 600 kg, Burtons are surprisingly agile and fun to drive despite their modest engine power. The rear-wheel-drive layout, minimalistic interior, and open cockpit provide an engaging experience rarely matched in more modern vehicles. They appeal to enthusiasts who enjoy mechanical simplicity, direct driving feedback, and classic aesthetics.

This particular example represents a well-finished build, with tasteful colour choices and solid craftsmanship. The owner’s personal involvement in its assembly also adds to the sense of care and attention it has received. Ideal for sunny climates, scenic roads, and weekend leisure drives, this Citroën Burton offers a refreshing take on classic motoring.
