The seller offers for sale a 1973 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron, a large and luxurious American sedan from the height of the Detroit land yacht era. Powered by a robust 7.2-litre V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission, this example delivers the smooth, effortless drive expected from Chrysler’s top-tier offering at the time.
The car was in single ownership in the United States for over 20 years before being imported to Poland in October 2024. Since then, it has undergone important mechanical work. The front disc brakes were serviced, a new 20W-50 oil and filter were installed, the starter was repaired, a new carburetor was adjusted, and improvements were made to the Flowmaster exhaust system. Additionally, new tires with a 109V index were fitted. The automatic gearbox is reported to function well, with no leaks or operational concerns.
The car retains many of its original features, including air conditioning, four power windows, cruise control, rear passenger air vents, and a cassette radio. The white leather roof is in good condition. However, some functions require attention: the mechanism for the front headlamp flaps needs repair, the wipers are not responsive, and the intake’s bi-metallic valve requires tuning. These issues do not affect drivability or starting.
Cosmetically, the body is in good condition, although an earlier attempt at repainting in the U.S. left a subpar finish. Despite this, the car retains an attractive overall appearance. The bodywork is structurally solid. The car benefits from upgraded front wire brakes but otherwise maintains its original configuration.
The interior is largely intact but has not been cleaned or detailed. It shows minimal wear, with no major defects noted, but it needs a thorough cleaning. The new owner may wish to invest time in cosmetic detailing, but overall it is functional and presentable for its age.
The Chrysler Imperial LeBaron was Chrysler’s answer to the Cadillac Fleetwood and Lincoln Continental, offering American luxury in its boldest form. In 1973, the Imperial received design revisions with new bumpers to meet federal regulations and more elaborate grille styling. As the marque’s flagship, the LeBaron trim level included features such as rich velour or leather upholstery, advanced (for the time) electronics, and a ride focused on supreme comfort.
Though Imperial had once been a standalone brand, by the early 1970s it had been folded back under the Chrysler name. Still, the Imperial LeBaron remained a distinctive offering, built on its own platform separate from other Chrysler models. The 440 cubic inch V8 engine produced substantial torque, and combined with a long wheelbase, gave the car its signature smooth float over the road.
Luxury buyers of the day appreciated the Imperial’s restrained but dignified styling, with its hidden headlamps and formal rooflines. The Imperial was often purchased by executives and government officials, and today it retains a niche following among collectors who admire full-size American luxury from the pre-oil crisis era. With fewer than 15,000 units built in 1973, surviving examples in solid running condition are becoming increasingly uncommon.
