Description

Chevrolet Fleetmaster | 1947

Highlights:

– Inline six-cylinder petrol engine, manual transmission
– Restored in 2006 under previous ownership
– Converted to a 12-volt electrical system
– Recently fitted with a new carburettor, fuel pump and brake master cylinder

The seller offers for sale this 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster, powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, paired with a manual transmission. The car was restored in 2006 in Poland under its then owner, a taxi and wedding car company, and it has been in the current ownership since 2019. The electrical system has been converted to 12 volts, a practical upgrade that greatly eases starting and everyday use, and recent work includes a new carburettor, a new fuel pump and a new brake master cylinder. The car comes with a valid inspection and presents an inviting picture inside and out, with an interior in good order.

The Fleetmaster was Chevrolet’s upmarket full-size offering in the immediate post-war years, when American factories returned to civilian production and car-hungry buyers queued for anything on wheels. Chevrolet was America’s best-selling brand in this era, and the Fleetmaster represented the line at its most refined, with rich interior trim and flowing, chrome-accented styling that still carried the elegant proportions of the pre-war design school. Under the bonnet sits Chevrolet’s legendary overhead-valve “Stovebolt” six, an engine renowned for its simplicity, longevity and unstressed torque delivery, qualities that made these cars trusted companions for millions of families.

Late-1940s American sedans have a charm all of their own, with their rounded fenders, split windscreens and art deco detailing, and they remain wonderfully usable classics thanks to straightforward mechanicals and good parts support. This Fleetmaster, with its history of ceremonial service and its recent mechanical attention, is well suited to wedding duty, club events or simply relaxed cruising, and offers a great deal of presence and nostalgia at an accessible level of the classic car market.
