The seller offers for sale this 1955 Buick Super coupe with automatic gearbox and 5.3-litre eight-cylinder petrol nailhead engine. The car previously passed through Gateway Classic Cars in the USA and there is even a YouTube video of it from that time. In America the engine, automatic transmission and much of the running gear were renewed or overhauled, and the chrome was refreshed. The car now presents in a neat American-style respray with a good shine, only a small spot on the bonnet and some minor rubber wear near the rear lights. The largely original interior still looks good; the headliner is in nice condition and only the stitching on the front and rear bench tops needs attention to make it tidy again. According to the seller the Buick starts without hesitation, runs without blue or white smoke, and the engine makes no unusual noises. The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and quietly, the brakes and steering function as they should, and there is no visible rust or accident damage reported. The car benefits from power steering, power windows and air conditioning. The car has a low documented mileage of 89.400 miles and holds a valid technical inspection.
The Buick Super of the mid-1950s occupies a desirable position in American automotive history. Built during the height of the chrome and tailfin era, it combined imposing presence with the smooth refinement for which Buick was known. Positioned above the Special in the model range, the Super offered generous dimensions, a comfortable ride and strong V8 performance suited to the growing interstate highway network. The nailhead V8 is praised for its characteristic torque and distinctive sound, while the automatic transmission makes the car relaxed and approachable, even for drivers unfamiliar with classic American machinery. As a two-door hardtop coupe, this Super has a more stylish, desirable roofline than four-door variants, which helps its appeal among collectors. Today, a 1950s Buick Super is appreciated as a charismatic cruiser: large, comfortable and distinctive, with generous chrome details and classic whitewall tyres that draw attention at shows, events and weekend drives alike.
