Highlights:

– Exceptionally rare Belgian-built aluminium caravan
– Restored chassis, braking system, and utilities
– One of very few survivors with original interior
– Ready to travel: gas, brakes, and lighting are functional
– Delivered with inspection valid until June 2026

The seller offers for sale this unique 1970 Bourgeois B50 Pullman, a hand-crafted caravan produced in Ostend, Belgium, during the period from 1960 to 1974. Known as the “Rolls-Royce” of vintage caravans, the Bourgeois stands out for its aviation-style aluminium construction, combining lightweight durability with stylish design. This specific Pullman B50 model is regarded as one of a handful remaining in mostly original condition—only an estimated 18 units may have survived to this day.

This caravan has been subject to a restoration, focusing on maintaining authenticity while ensuring it is roadworthy and usable. The chassis was stripped and treated against rust before being repainted. The braking system was overhauled, featuring refurbished drums, new hydraulic brake cylinders, and fresh brake shoes. All gas and brake lines have been replaced, improving safety and functionality. It is fitted with a new Thule bicycle rack and includes a modern inflatable awning.

The interior remains largely original, a rarity among surviving examples. While it shows some typical age-related signs, it retains charm and historical value. All cushions have been newly upholstered using anti-allergic materials for modern comfort. The lighting, brake lights, and indicators are all functioning, and the caravan passed a blank inspection valid through June 2026. Final inspection prior to sale can be arranged with the seller.

The condition of the exterior is described as good, with some minor scratches and small dents consistent with a vehicle of this age. The aluminium body is rust-free, with the chassis protected during restoration. The paint finish remains appealing without being overly polished or show-ready.

Inside, the caravan impresses with its preserved layout and fittings, a rare sight in vintage caravans of this type. There are traces of use but no structural or mechanical issues noted. The upholstery is fresh and professionally done, and the general impression is of a functional, comfortable, and well-preserved mobile living space.

The Bourgeois B50 Pullman has become a cult favourite among collectors and vintage camping enthusiasts. Unlike mass-produced caravans of its time, Bourgeois produced each model in small numbers, often tailoring details by hand. The B50 was known for its modernist lines and relatively spacious interior, making it a symbol of luxury camping in its day. Its aluminium structure was a significant departure from traditional wood-framed caravans, offering better weight distribution, improved corrosion resistance, and enhanced towing characteristics.

Today, the Bourgeois is often showcased at vintage caravan gatherings and appreciated for both its unique history and timeless design. Its rarity makes it a conversation piece, while its practical usability—especially in a well-preserved state like this—makes it attractive for actual travel use as well. This caravan isn’t just a collector’s piece; it’s ready to go on the road, offering retro charm with updated convenience.
