The private seller offers for sale this 1978 BMW 320/6 Baur, powered by a 2.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, paired with an automatic transmission. The E21 3 Series was introduced in 1975 as the successor to the 02 series, and the 320/6 carried the smooth six-cylinder engine that gave the compact BMW its sporting reputation. Karl Baur of Stuttgart converted the E21 into the TopCabriolet, a four-seat open car with a removable roof section and a fold-down rear hood, and only 4595 of the TC1 version were produced in total.
This example carries Baur number 417 and is finished in white with a red soft top and a dark interior that the seller describes as original. The combination of the six-cylinder engine, the automatic gearbox and chrome electric door mirrors makes it an unusual specification within the Baur range. The car has been repainted and the seller reports that the underbody was treated with protective wax in 2026.
The car underwent extensive mechanical work in 2019, including a new timing belt, water pump, brake master cylinder, brake discs, pads, lines and hoses, new fuel tanks and lines, replaced shock absorbers, new Powerflex bushes and a refurbished steering rack. A fresh service was carried out in 2026 with new oil, filters and spark plugs, and the fabric covers of the soft top and hardtop were renewed in Germany the same year. The seller states that the car starts, shifts through the gears and brakes, and the car has been stored since 2019 with very little use. A complete recommissioning and inspection is recommended before regular road use, and the tyres date from 2017. An additional set of BBS Mahle alloy wheels is included, and the seller notes a few minor scratches from storage.
