1. Inspect the Vehicle Upon Delivery

Before signing for receipt, carefully inspect the vehicle. Check the exterior, interior, chassis, engine, and underside.
If you notice any damage, have a damage report (CMR) completed together with the transport company and signed by the driver.
Keep your copy and take clear photos and videos of all damage.

2. Report the Damage Immediately

Contact both the seller and Route 66 Auctions within 3 days of delivery.
Include the following evidence:

  • Photos of the entire vehicle and the specific damage
  • A video showing the damage (if possible)
  • A copy of the signed CMR document
  • If available: photos taken by the seller before transport

Our specialists will review your report and guide you through the next steps.

3. Communication with the Transporter and Seller

Notify the transport company immediately about the damage and send them your evidence.
Then contact the seller via the internal Route 66 Auctions chat to discuss the situation.
We can mediate and help find an appropriate solution, such as repair or compensation.

4. What to Provide for a Damage Claim

To process your claim properly, please submit:

  • At least one overview photo of the vehicle
  • Five or more detailed photos of the damage
  • A short description comparing the damage to the auction listing
  • A video if the issue is technical or not easily visible
  • For mechanical problems: a signed report from a certified garage or dealer

For large files, you can use transfer services such as WeTransfer.

5. What Is a CMR Document?

A CMR (Convention des Marchandises par Route) is the standard road transport document used by carriers.
It contains details about the vehicle, sender, recipient, and any included items (such as keys or documents).

Three copies are issued:

  • One for the seller (as proof of condition at departure),
  • One for the buyer (as confirmation of condition upon arrival),
  • One for the transport company itself.

Your signature upon delivery confirms that the vehicle was received in the condition stated — so always inspect it carefully before signing.
