When purchasing a vehicle originating from the United States – or one still registered under a US title while in Europe – it must be re-registered in your own country. This is done through the local registration authority, such as the RDW in the Netherlands, DIV in Belgium, or KBA in Germany.

Documents Required

To register a US vehicle in Europe, the following documents are generally required:

  • The original US Title (official registration certificate).
  • Proof of ownership, such as the invoice or sales contract provided by Route 66 Auctions between buyer and seller.
  • Customs documents proving that the vehicle has been correctly imported and that any import duties and taxes have been paid.

Inspection by Local Authorities

The registration authority will:

  • Verify that VAT and import duties have been properly paid;
  • Possibly require the vehicle to undergo a technical or safety inspection before it can be approved for road use.

Advice

Since requirements differ by country, we recommend contacting your local registration or inspection authority in advance. This ensures you know exactly which documents, forms, and technical modifications are required in your country to register a vehicle of US origin.
