Important Information Before Placing a Bid

When placing a bid on Route 66 Auctions, it’s important to understand that transport and registration of the vehicle are not included in your bid, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Your bid therefore excludes transport and export costs. You may wish to consider these additional costs before bidding. In some cases, the seller can arrange transport for you (if indicated in the vehicle description), but you are always free to use your own transport service.

Route 66 Auctions can also organize the entire transport process for you. Thanks to our many years of experience and partnerships with trusted international transport companies, we can ensure safe and efficient worldwide delivery of your vehicle.

We also advise you to check the vehicle registration regulations in your country before bidding. Neither the seller nor Route 66 Auctions can be held responsible for registration in your country. The seller will, however, support you by providing the necessary documents. In certain cases, you may request a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) from the seller. Note that this document is not required in every country; sometimes, it must be obtained directly from an official dealer in your country.

Sales Conditions and Vehicle Condition

All vehicles offered through Route 66 Auctions are sold “as is”, meaning in the condition presented by the seller. The vehicle’s condition and description are based on the seller’s information and photos. The seller’s opinion may differ from that of a local garage or brand specialist, without necessarily meaning the description is inaccurate.

Paint repairs are common with classic and collectible vehicles. When done professionally, they are often barely visible in photos. Therefore, it is safe to assume that every vehicle has undergone some level of body or paintwork at some point in its life. Similarly, minor oil seepage (“sweating”) is considered normal for classic vehicles.

The mileage shown in the listing reflects the odometer reading unless stated otherwise. For many classic cars, it is nearly impossible to verify the exact mileage.

Internal Evaluation and Condition Reports

The condition grading system used in our auctions is based on an internal Route 66 Auctions standard, which may differ from official inspection or certification bodies such as TÜV, MOT, or CT. If there is a discrepancy between the seller’s assessment and that of an external party, the seller’s description is considered authoritative.

Condition reports included in a listing are prepared by external parties and represent only an opinion. They may be incomplete and not mention every defect, previous restoration, modification, or issue.

Classic and Collectible Vehicles

Most vehicles auctioned through Route 66 Auctions are classics or collector’s items. Many have lived long and varied lives, and even those classified in excellent condition will never match their original factory state. Regular maintenance is necessary to keep the vehicle roadworthy.

Future maintenance or restoration work should always be expected — ranging from minor technical upkeep to cosmetic improvements or full restorations. This is part of the charm of owning a classic vehicle.

Performance among classic cars can vary widely. Even two examples of the same model and year may drive very differently, depending on their history and upkeep. We therefore recommend new owners to proceed with care: if you lack experience with classic cars, always have the vehicle thoroughly inspected before driving.

We strongly advise not to drive a newly purchased classic car home yourself. Even if the vehicle seems mechanically sound, age, wear, or inactivity can lead to unexpected breakdowns. We therefore always recommend using professional transport to ensure the vehicle arrives safely and without risk of damage or mechanical failure.

Photos, Videos, and Viewing

Photos, videos, and object descriptions in listings are intended as guidelines only. Most media is provided by sellers using standard cameras or smartphones. As a result, certain details may not be fully visible, and sound quality — such as engine or exhaust noise — may differ from reality.

Because Route 66 Auctions experts typically assess vehicles virtually rather than through physical inspection, they rely largely on material provided by the seller. While this process is handled with great care, photos and descriptions can never provide a complete analysis.

Therefore, we strongly recommend that buyers inspect the vehicle in person or arrange an independent inspection before placing a bid. This helps ensure a well-informed decision and prevents disappointment after purchase.
