Frequently asked questions
What is the reserve price, and do I have to sell if it is reached?
The reserve price is the minimum amount you are willing to accept. We set it together with you, based on market value, condition and the interest we expect for your model. It is never visible to bidders, and the starting bid is deliberately set lower to get the bidding going — so bids below your reserve price are completely normal. If the reserve price is reached, your vehicle is sold to the highest bidder and you are required to deliver it. If it is not reached, your vehicle is not sold, you remain the owner and you pay nothing.
What happens if my vehicle does not sell?
When you submit your vehicle you instruct us, under our Seller Terms and Conditions, to offer it in a minimum of three auction rounds. Each round reaches a different audience, and vehicles that do not sell in the first round regularly sell in the second or third. Between rounds we contact you to review the reserve price together.
Can I send extra photos?
Yes, and we recommend it. The more completely your vehicle is presented, the more confidence bidders have — and confident bidders bid higher. Buyers ask most often for photos of the underside, the engine bay and the boot, and for close-ups of any imperfections. Do show those imperfections: photos of rust or paint damage lead to higher bids rather than lower ones, because buyers know exactly what they are bidding on.
Send extra photos by email to sales@route66auctions.com or via WhatsApp on +31 6 4325 3496.
When will my vehicle go online?
Once you have agreed the reserve price, your vehicle will be online soon. You will receive the start and end dates and a direct link to your listing by email.
What does it cost me?
Submitting your vehicle is free, and if it does not sell you pay nothing. If your vehicle sells, we charge a success fee of 3% (incl. VAT) on the final bid. It is deducted from the sale amount before the remainder is paid out to you, and it covers the marketing of your vehicle, the review by our specialists, the professional listing and the support of both you and the buyer throughout the sale. Transport is arranged and paid for by the buyer, and your vehicle stays with you until it is sold.
Can I withdraw my vehicle, or offer it elsewhere?
Withdrawing your vehicle always involves costs. The amounts that apply are set out in our Seller Terms and Conditions. From the moment you submit your vehicle we begin the review, prepare the listing and start marketing it, which is why a withdrawal is never free of charge.
Your vehicle is also offered exclusively through Route 66 Auctions. While it is with us, you may not list it for sale anywhere else. If your situation changes, please contact us as soon as possible.
Will buyers want to view my vehicle?
Some will. All bids are legally binding, so buyers with serious interest sometimes prefer to see a vehicle in person before they bid. Viewings are free of charge and increase the chance of a successful sale.
Before we approach you, we always ask a potential viewer for an indicative bid based on the listing. That way you only receive serious viewers, and you know in advance what the buyer has in mind. We then check with you and arrange a time that suits you both.
Who writes the listing?
Our in-house specialists write every listing: a professional, engaging description based on the information and the photos you have provided. The more complete your submission, the stronger the listing — and the stronger the result.
