When you purchase a vehicle originating from outside the European Union, it must be re-registered in a European country. This is done through the local vehicle registration authority (such as the RDW in the Netherlands, DIV in Belgium, or KBA in Germany).

Required documents:
• The original foreign title (the official registration certificate). This document varies by country.
• Proof of ownership, such as the invoice or sales contract between the seller and you as the buyer. This document will be provided by Route 66 Auctions.
• Customs documents proving that the vehicle has been properly imported and that all taxes and/or import duties have been paid.

The local authorities will then verify that VAT and import duties have been correctly paid and may require the vehicle to pass a technical or safety inspection before registration in Europe is possible.

Because the requirements vary by country, we recommend contacting your local registration authority before bidding on a car to confirm which documents and inspections are required.
