Description

Indian Scout | 1925

Highlights

  • 600 cc V-twin petrol engine
  • Documented provenance including ownership by racing driver Carlo Leto di Priolo
  • Previously part of the Umberto Panini Collection
  • ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) certified
  • Museum-displayed and preserved in authentic condition

The seller offers for sale this exceptional 1925 Indian Scout, powered by a 600 cc side-valve V-twin petrol engine with a 3-speed manual gearbox. While its early history remains unknown, documentation confirms ownership from 1959 onwards, beginning with Santo Cassaneo Cassano in Adda, Italy. In 1969, the motorcycle was acquired by Italian racing driver Carlo Leto di Priolo, famous for competing in events such as the Mille Miglia and the Giro di Sicilia. He sold it to Umberto Panini — of the renowned Panini family — in 1973, who preserved it as part of his private collection. The motorcycle has since been restored while retaining its historical authenticity and now bears ASI certification plate No. 0165, verifying its heritage status.

The paintwork shows light patina consistent with museum preservation, adding character to this historically important motorcycle. The engine has not been run recently and will require a full service before operation. The gearbox may need adjustment, and the electrics and lighting require attention, as expected for a display piece.

The Indian Scout, first introduced in 1920, became one of the most iconic motorcycles of the early 20th century. Praised for its reliability, handling, and engineering innovation, it featured a side-valve V-twin engine and a geared primary drive — advanced design for its era. The Scout was popular among racers and adventurers alike, known for its durability in extreme conditions. This example, with its prestigious provenance and well-preserved originality, stands as a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of motorcycling and racing history.
