The seller offers for sale a 1960 Opel Kapitän P2.6, a stately sedan powered by a 2.6-liter inline-six paired with a 3-speed column-shift manual gearbox. Originally delivered in dark blue, the car was later repainted white for wedding rental use by a previous owner. Acquired by the current owner in 2020, it has since benefitted from extensive work including a reconditioned clutch, new brake system with DOT5 conversion, new cooling components, engine and gearbox mounts, new exhaust, and electrical updates. In addition, the car received new tires, a fresh battery, and numerous detailed fixes to ensure reliability. The interior is well preserved, seating six comfortably with fully functional equipment and heating. The engine runs smoothly and the gearbox shifts correctly. Minor rust is present on the underside and behind the front grille, and the paint shows small imperfections, but the structure is solid. Certified by the ACP as a classic, this Kapitän is ready for both show and road use.
The Opel Kapitän P2.6 was introduced in 1959 as part of Opel’s flagship luxury line, positioned above the Rekord and Olympia models. With American-inspired styling, generous dimensions, and a smooth six-cylinder engine, it became a symbol of post-war prosperity in Europe. The P2.6 offered comfort, soft suspension, and light steering, making it a refined choice for long journeys. Although produced in limited numbers compared to mainstream sedans, the Kapitän earned a reputation for reliability and presence on the road. Today, surviving examples are prized by enthusiasts for their rarity, elegant lines, and connection to Opel’s prestige era, making them a distinctive alternative among European classics of the 1960s.
