The seller offers for sale this 1972 Simca 1100 Special, a compact front-wheel-drive sedan equipped with a 1204 cc 4-cylinder petrol engine and manual transmission. The Special version features performance-oriented upgrades such as twin double-barrel Weber carburetors, giving it a more responsive character than standard variants. The car was in regular use from 1972 until the late 1980s, after which it was parked for an extended period. In 2015, it was recommissioned and has since received multiple improvements. Notably, the engine was renewed at 49,000 km and a repaint of the exterior was performed in 2020.

This example comes with five new Dunlop tyres and retains many period features, including a Europa TR radio and cassette player. It also holds classic vehicle certification from a FIVA-associated entity, which was granted in 2020. The current registration includes both ownership documentation and classic certification, making it eligible for various historic vehicle benefits depending on the country of registration.

The paint and bodywork are in a usable state, with the exterior having been repainted in 2020. However, the seller notes that the interior metal sections were not repainted and may benefit from attention. The chrome trim and bumpers remain in good shape. There is reported rust on the pillar near the front right door.

Mechanically, the car is rated in good condition and it holds a valid technical inspection certificate.

The interior remains in complete condition. Original seat fabric and ceiling panels are present, with only minor damage noted on the top of the dashboard panel. The general impression is of a well-kept and gently recommissioned classic that has retained most of its originality while undergoing some sensible upgrades for usability.

The Simca 1100 was introduced in 1967 by the French marque Simca, which by then was under Chrysler Europe. It was revolutionary for its time, featuring a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout combined with a hatchback body—pioneering a template that would become mainstream in the decades that followed. The “Special” variant of the 1100 was a higher-trim model often chosen for its enhanced driving characteristics and comfort.

Notably, the 1100 was also one of the best-selling cars in France during the early 1970s and found popularity in several European markets. It featured independent suspension on all four wheels, making it notably agile and smooth for a compact car of its era. Despite this, many examples succumbed to rust and hard use, making surviving units—especially those with documentation and classic certification—relatively rare today. Its historical role in shaping compact hatchback and sedan design adds to the appeal for enthusiasts and collectors of European classics.
