The seller offers for sale this very rare Ford Comete from 1954. This exclusive post-war coupe was built by F.A.C.E.L. (known from the Facel Vega) in Paris and the chassis with V8 engine came from the Ford France factory in Poissy. The Comete is a very exclusive model and a rare appearance of which only 2265 were built. It is said that only a few dozen Cometes are known to exist, making this classic a very interesting investment item and popular among collectors.
This Ford Comete is a 13 CV model from 1954 with the larger 2.4 liter Aquilon V8 engine. What makes this Ford even more special is its optional Cotal electric-hydraulic four-speed gearbox with joystick steering column switch. This switching mechanism was also used in Bugattis and Delahayes. Of the 2265 Cometes built, only a few were delivered with the Cotal gearbox.
The Comete was designed by the Italian coachbuilder Stabilimenti Farina and was intended for the luxury segment. The body was built by FACEL Paris, later known for the iconic FACEL Vega. The Comete that we offer for sale here has a two-tone paintwork in black/bronze that has been repainted in the past and has signs of usage. The cognac brown leather interior is in an neat original condition with signs of wear and tear.
