– Rover 3.9L V8 with Edelbrock intake and Weber carb setup

The seller offers for sale this TVR BNL-Cobra replica, a high-quality Dax 427 Cobra replica built between 2012 and 2015 using the chassis and differential of a TVR Chimaera. This approach offers greater torsional rigidity and dynamic precision than a standard Cobra kit chassis. The build was based around a 1993 Rover 3.9-litre V8 engine sourced from a Discovery I, paired with a rebuilt LT77 manual gearbox and TVR rear differential. Since completion in 2015, the car has covered only 2,789 miles.

The chassis was completely disassembled, powder-coated, and rebuilt with new suspension components including springs, dampers, bushings, and bearings. The drivetrain was also refreshed with new fluids, and the engine underwent a cylinder compression check before being fitted. Modifications include the removal of the original electronic injection in favour of a Weber 4-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock Performer intake, improving response and simplicity. A Pertronix ignition system, new distributor, coil, and wires were added in 2024.

Exhaust duties are handled by a custom stainless steel manifold that exits via side pipes, delivering the distinct Cobra-like soundtrack. A front-mounted oil cooler supports engine longevity. The body was professionally resprayed in Ford Performance Blue in 2018, and though it remains in good condition, there are two minor scratches near the seating area.

The interior is trimmed in artificial leather, including the dash, door panels, gear gaiter, and bucket seats, all secured with Willans 4-point harnesses. The boot is carpeted and houses a battery disconnect switch and concealed tow hook. Gauges are functional except the oil pressure readout, which lacks a sensor.

Mechanically, the vehicle is good and road-ready. The vehicle retains a valid Dutch technical inspection certificate and is legally road-registered.

While not a factory-built vehicle, the use of TVR underpinnings elevates this build above many traditional Cobra replicas. The Dax 427 is widely regarded as one of the best Cobra recreations, known for its quality bodywork, correct proportions, and compatibility with powerful V8 engines. When paired with the rigid and responsive TVR backbone, the result is a unique hybrid that balances visual drama with credible handling.

The Rover 3.9 V8 is a tried-and-tested powerplant that offers a good blend of torque and simplicity, especially in carbureted form. While not as aggressive as a modern LS engine, it delivers classic V8 character and aural appeal. The manual gearbox and unassisted controls provide a raw, connected driving experience that’s often missing in newer sports cars.

This Cobra replica tribute merges classic American roadster looks with British engineering and custom craftsmanship. It provides the thrills of an AC Cobra at a fraction of the cost of an original, yet offers a uniquely tailored chassis and aesthetic. With such low mileage, careful attention to build quality, and thoughtful upgrades, this is a standout example of the genre.
