The private seller offers for sale this 1936 Adler Trumpf Junior 1E, powered by a 995 cc four-cylinder side-valve engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in soft cream with a chrome-trimmed grille carrying the Adler emblem, this two-door saloon presents with real pre-war charm. The cabin is trimmed in grey ribbed cloth on both front seats and the rear bench, matched by grey trim panels and headlining, while the slender black steering wheel and the painted dashboard with its round instruments give the interior a pure 1930s atmosphere. A spare wheel is mounted on the sloping tail, exactly as Adler intended.

The car was restored by its previous owner in 2004 and has been in the current owner’s hands since 2023. During that time further work has been carried out: the brakes, the gearbox and the dynamo have all been overhauled. The engine bay presents tidy and complete, with the characteristic louvred bonnet sides and the forward-mounted engine that defines the Trumpf Junior’s front-wheel-drive concept.

Adler, based in Frankfurt am Main, was one of Germany’s most respected manufacturers before the Second World War, and the Trumpf Junior was the car that brought the company to a much wider audience. Developed by engineers Hans Gustav Röhr and Josef Dauben, it was introduced in 1934 as a compact, affordable family car with front-wheel drive, a layout that was still a rarity at the time. The first 1G series was followed in 1936 by the improved 1E, which remained in production until 1941. Around 78,000 examples of the 1E were built, making the Trumpf Junior Adler’s best-selling car of the era and a direct rival to the small front-wheel-drive cars from DKW. Very few have survived the decades since.

Driving a Trumpf Junior is an encounter with genuine automotive history. The compact four-cylinder engine, the unsynchronised four-speed gearbox and the light, upright body make for an engaging and characterful experience, while the front-wheel-drive layout gives the car a surprisingly modern stance on the road. Equally at home at club events, pre-war tours and classic car shows, this 1936 Adler Trumpf Junior 1E offers collectors a rare chance to own a significant piece of German engineering heritage.
