The private seller offers for sale this 1974 BMW 2002 tii Touring, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder fuel-injected engine, paired with a manual transmission. Finished in a deep shade of red, this Touring pairs its period colour with black seats featuring red inserts, a black dashboard with wood-trimmed instrument panel and black door cards with wood accents. The car is offered following the passing of its owner and comes with a BMW workshop manual and a Haynes repair manual, welcome companions for any future owner who enjoys looking after a classic personally. Chrome bumpers, the Touring and 2002 tii scripts on the tailgate and the wheels with BMW centre caps keep the appearance true to the period.

Under the bonnet, the M10 four-cylinder engine with its distinctive Kugelfischer injection system and long intake runners takes centre stage, complemented by an aluminium strut brace across the front suspension turrets. The cabin offers the practical layout that set the Touring apart within the 02 range, with a folding rear seat, a parcel shelf and a wide-opening tailgate that gives access to a useful load area.

BMW introduced the Touring in 1971 as a three-door hatchback version of the successful 02 series, the compact two-door saloon that had transformed the company’s fortunes after its launch in 1966. With its sloping rear, large tailgate and round tail lights, the Touring was an early interpretation of the sporty hatchback concept, offering everyday practicality without giving up the agile handling of the saloon. It was built until 1974, which makes this one of the last examples produced, and was offered with a range of engines from the 1600 up to the fuel-injected tii.

The tii was the most potent version of the Touring. Its 1990 cc M10 engine uses Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection to produce 130 hp, giving the light Touring lively performance, while the precise steering, independent rear suspension and well-balanced chassis that made the 2002 tii a benchmark sports saloon carry over in full. Today the tii Touring is considerably rarer than its saloon sibling and is increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate its blend of genuine performance and practicality.
