– Always stored indoors
– White paintwork with blue cloth interior and wood dashboard trim

The private seller offers for sale this 1971 BMW 2000 Automatic, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in white, the car presents with a classic and understated combination, complemented by a blue cloth interior with matching front seats and rear bench, a fold-down rear armrest and the characteristic wood trim across the dashboard. The original round instruments, including the speedometer and the combined clock and gauge unit, are present, and the centre console houses a period radio and the selector for the automatic gearbox. On the outside, the car rides on steel wheels with chrome hubcaps carrying the BMW roundel, and the chrome bumpers, window surrounds and side trim complete the period appearance.

According to the seller, the car has always been stored indoors. It has been fitted with an electronic ignition, a popular and practical upgrade for classic cars that are used regularly, and the car is equipped with a tow bar. The car also has a valid roadworthiness inspection. The engine bay presents tidily, with the light blue air filter housing and the BMW cam cover on display, and the luggage compartment is trimmed with a blue carpet.

The BMW 2000 belongs to the celebrated Neue Klasse, the range of compact four-door sedans that BMW introduced in 1962 with the 1500. The Neue Klasse is widely credited with saving BMW from financial difficulty and establishing the company as a maker of sporting, well-engineered saloons. The 2000 arrived in 1966 as the most powerful and best-equipped version of the family, and it was offered with a choice of manual or automatic transmission, making it one of the first BMW models available with a self-shifting gearbox. Its four-cylinder M10 engine, designed under Alexander von Falkenhausen, became one of the most important engines in BMW history, going on to power the 02 Series, the first 3 Series and 5 Series, and forming the basis for highly successful racing engines.

The design of the Neue Klasse, with its airy glasshouse, slim pillars, low waistline and the forward-leaning front with the kidney grille, set the visual language for BMW sedans for years to come. The 2000 is recognisable by its wide rectangular headlights and the chrome detailing front and rear. Underneath, it features independent suspension all round with MacPherson struts at the front and semi-trailing arms at the rear, which gave the car a balance of comfort and agility that was ahead of its time. The automatic version adds an extra measure of relaxed, easy driving, making this an ideal classic for touring and everyday enjoyment.

Today, well-kept examples of the Neue Klasse are increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate the model’s historical significance as the car that laid the foundation for the modern BMW sports sedan. This 2000 Automatic, with its indoor storage, valid inspection and practical upgrades, offers an attractive opportunity to own an important piece of BMW heritage.
