Introduced by Adlerwerke of Frankfurt am Main in 1934, the Trumpf Junior was conceived as a smaller, more affordable companion to the existing Adler Trumpf, aimed squarely at the growing market for compact front-wheel-drive cars pioneered in Germany by DKW. Developed under engineers Hans Gustav Röhr and Josef Dauben, the Trumpf Junior was notably advanced for its class, combining front-wheel drive with independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and a distinctive steering-column-mounted “walking stick” gearshift. The model was offered in a wide variety of body styles, from closed saloons to the open cabriolet and cabriolet-sports versions, and its combination of modern engineering and compact dimensions made it one of Adler’s most successful models of the 1930s.
Power comes from a 995cc side-valve four-cylinder engine, producing a modest but characterful output that was well matched to the car’s light weight and front-wheel-drive layout.
