The engine has been built with a multi-layer head gasket, an exhaust manifold with an externally mounted wastegate, and a Mitsubishi twin-scroll turbocharger. It runs a dedicated intake manifold with a 70mm throttle body and 750cc injectors, together with an AEM fuel pump and regulator. An Ecumaster ECU manages the engine electronics, including launch control, and the car is fitted with a compact alternator, a lithium Marelli battery and an oil cooler.
On the chassis side, the car has Brembo brakes with 330mm front discs and an electrically operated brake servo, a full Gaz Gold suspension set-up, and a motorsport-specification 4.44 final-drive ratio. The bonnet and boot lid are in fibreglass, the doors have been lightened and fitted with Lexan windows, and the steering uses an electric power-assisted, direct-ratio rack. The car comes with two matching sets of 17-inch wheels, and the seating position has been moved rearward, as is typical for this type of build.
According to the seller, all of the modifications are bolt-on and therefore reversible, and the car is supplied with the original parts needed to return it to road specification, including the original four doors, bonnet and boot lid, manifolds with the original turbocharger, dashboard, brake servo and headlights.
The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was developed in the late 1980s primarily as a homologation special for Group A touring car racing, and quickly became one of the defining performance Fords of its era. The four-wheel-drive version introduced in 1990 was based on the four-door Sapphire bodyshell rather than the original three-door hatchback, giving it the stability and traction sought for international rallying, and the model remained in production until 1992, when it was succeeded by the Escort Cosworth, which inherited much of its running gear. The turbocharged 2.0-litre YB engine that powers the Sierra Cosworth has since become one of the most recognised units in European motorsport, and cars built to this specification remain a popular basis for FIA Historic Group E1 touring car and rally competition today.
