The seller offers for sale this 1948 Rover P3, powered by a 2.0-litre inline-six engine, paired with a manual transmission. This Rover P3 presents in black over a striking red leather interior, complete with a fold-down centre picnic table, a bench-style rear seat and the wood-trimmed dashboard typical of Rover saloons of the period. The car has been well preserved, with the interior showing minimal wear. The boot retains its original red trim and opens to reveal a practical, usable luggage area.
Launched in 1948, the Rover P3 was a transitional model for the company, retaining the traditional separate chassis and pre-war-influenced styling of its P2 predecessor while introducing Rover’s new overhead-inlet, side-exhaust six-cylinder engines. Offered in four-cylinder 60 and six-cylinder 75 form, the P3 was produced only briefly, from 1948 to 1949, before being replaced by the monocoque P4, making surviving examples relatively scarce today. The six-cylinder cars, fitted with the larger engine offered here, are particularly sought after among Rover collectors.
Power comes from Rover’s inline-six engine of 2.0 litres, driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. True to Rover’s engineering philosophy of the period, the P3 combines a stately, upright cabin with a relaxed, torque-led driving character, making it well suited to long-distance touring in the manner for which pre-war-influenced British saloons of the late 1940s are remembered.
