The seller offers for sale this 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250 SL, powered by a 2.5-litre inline-six engine, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This example was purchased in California in 2014 and was subsequently taken apart completely, down to the last component, before being rebuilt during a comprehensive restoration. Photographs documenting the full restoration process are available upon request. Since 2018 the car has been driven occasionally by the current owner, and it now shows a few honest signs of use on the paintwork consistent with that light use. The car is presented in red with a cream leather interior, a striking combination that departs from its original factory colour scheme of black over white. Technical servicing has been carried out every year, keeping the car ready for the road.

Beyond the visual transformation, the seller has kept the car mechanically sound through the annual service routine, and the car’s history, from its disassembly and rebuild to its subsequent use, is well documented. The chrome trim, wheels and body panels all reflect the care that went into the restoration, and the cream leather cabin, dashboard and top mechanism present accordingly.

The Mercedes-Benz 250 SL belongs to the W113 model series, the two-seat roadster line nicknamed the “Pagoda” for the distinctive concave curve of its removable hardtop, a shape chosen for both style and structural rigidity. Introduced for the 1967 model year as a one-year-only update between the 230 SL and 280 SL, the 250 SL combined the larger 2.5-litre engine and uprated brakes of the later car with the character of the earlier model, and only around 5,200 examples were built, making it the rarest of the three W113 variants. The W113 series was engineered under Béla Barényi’s safety-first design philosophy and succeeded the legendary 300 SL and 190 SL as Mercedes-Benz’s flagship sports car, combining open-top driving pleasure with the refinement and build quality the brand was known for.

Behind the wheel, the 250 SL offers a relaxed and cultured driving character, with the fuel-injected inline-six providing smooth, torquey performance and the automatic transmission suiting the car’s grand-touring nature. The removable hardtop and soft top give the car year-round usability, while the timeless styling, penned in-house at Mercedes-Benz, continues to make the W113 one of the most sought-after classic Mercedes-Benz models among collectors and enthusiasts today.
