Description

Dodge Charger R/T | 1968

Highlights:

– 505 cubic inch (8.3-litre) V8 wedge stroker engine, petrol, 5-speed manual transmission
– Genuine R/T with XS VIN code
– Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox and new clutch
– Suspension completely overhauled a few years ago

The seller offers for sale this 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, powered by a 505 cubic inch V8 wedge stroker engine, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This is a genuine R/T example, confirmed by the XS code in its VIN, although the fender tag and build sheet are no longer present. The car is fitted with a non-matching 505 cubic inch wedge stroker block, mated to a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox with a new clutch, a combination that transforms the driving experience compared to the original drivetrain. According to the seller, the suspension was completely overhauled a few years ago. The upholstery is neat, and the paintwork, now around 20 years old, presents tidily with a scratch here and there, though the seller notes it is certainly not perfect; there are no dents, and the vinyl roof shows minor damage. The heater unit has been removed from the car due to a leaking heater radiator. The seller imported the car in 2015 and it has been road-registered since.

The second-generation Dodge Charger, introduced for 1968, is one of the most celebrated designs of the muscle car era. Its “Coke bottle” styling, hidden headlights and full-width tail lights gave it a menacing presence that has only grown in stature over the decades, helped by starring roles in films such as Bullitt and countless appearances on screen since. The R/T, short for Road/Track, was the performance flagship of the range, and genuine R/T cars have become the most desirable of the breed among collectors.

With its big-block stroker power and modern five-speed transmission, this Charger combines the unmistakable look of the 1968 original with serious straight-line performance and more relaxed cruising ability. Genuine R/T examples with manual transmission are keenly sought after, and this car offers an exciting package for the muscle car enthusiast who wants to drive rather than display.
