This is an early first-series XJ6 finished in white with a black leather interior. According to the seller, the car stood unused for a number of years before a partial recommissioning was carried out: the carburettors have been rebuilt, two new fuel tanks and fuel pumps have been fitted, and a new battery installed. The body shows no major dents and the overall structure of the shell appears sound, though the paintwork would benefit from attention. The black leather interior retains its original character; the driver’s seat shows wear consistent with age, and the passenger seat has a seam separation on the seat cushion, with the remainder of the cabin in acceptable condition for a car of this age. The Jaguar XJ6 was introduced in 1968 and immediately set a new benchmark for the combination of ride comfort, refinement and performance in a full-size saloon. Sir William Lyons oversaw its development as his final complete car, and the result was widely regarded as one of the finest saloons in the world at its launch. The first-series cars, produced from 1968 to 1973, are considered the purest expression of the original design, featuring the elegant uncluttered body lines that would define the XJ series for over two decades.
