The seller offers for sale this 1987 BMW 525e E28, powered by a 2.7-litre six-cylinder engine, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Presented in its original Malachitgrün Metallic paintwork over a beige leather interior, this is a Phase II example dating from July 1987. The seller reports 150,000 km from new and is the sixth owner, with a present service booklet and a Histovec report confirming the vehicle’s history and mileage. Delivered new in Paris at the BMW Mirabeau dealership in the 16th arrondissement, it comes well equipped with central locking, electric front windows, ABS, functioning air conditioning and a digital clock.

Since acquiring the car the seller reports a considerable amount of recent mechanical work. The paintwork was refreshed in 2016, and servicing has been kept up to date at BMW Plaisir. Recent expenditure includes fluid changes throughout the engine, gearbox, differential, cooling, braking and power-steering systems, a valve adjustment, timing work with a new tensioner roller, and a new rocker-cover gasket. The air, cabin, oil and fuel filters were renewed, along with the cooling hoses, steering track rods, left and right suspension arms, the tie rod and the exhaust pipes. The previous owner lowered the car by 40 mm at the front and 30 mm at the rear, and the original springs are supplied to return it to standard ride height. A fresh technical inspection is to be carried out for the sale.

The BMW E28 generation of the 5 Series was produced from 1981 to 1988 and represented the second generation of BMW’s executive saloon. The 525e was a particularly interesting variant, the “e” denoting “eta”, an engineering philosophy focused on efficiency: a comparatively large-displacement six-cylinder engine tuned for low-rpm torque and economy rather than outright power. This gave the 525e a relaxed, effortless character well suited to comfortable long-distance touring, a trait complemented here by the smooth automatic transmission.

With its clean, understated three-box styling, the classic BMW kidney grille and quad headlights, the E28 has become a well-regarded modern classic that captures the character of 1980s BMW engineering. This example’s original metallic green over beige leather colour combination, documented history and recent mechanical attention make it an appealing entry into E28 ownership for enthusiasts of the marque.
