The seller offers for sale this 1964 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, powered by a 5.4-litre 327 cubic inch V8 engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in its original colour combination of ermine white over a red interior, this C2 cabriolet was sold new in New York in 1964, a history confirmed by an accompanying NCRS certificate and a file of supporting American documentation. The car later passed to a Belgian collector before entering the current ownership, which now spans more than twenty years, and it is presented with a folding soft top. At some stage the original engine was replaced with a 1965-specification 327 V8, subsequently built up to L76 specification with camel hump cylinder heads, a solid lifter camshaft, a high-rise intake manifold and a Holley four-barrel carburettor, a combination the seller reports to be good for around 365 horsepower. An appraisal report is available.
Since taking ownership, the seller has carried out a range of mechanical and cosmetic work on the car. The rear suspension was rebuilt with polyurethane bushings, new wheel bearings were fitted front and rear along with new shock absorbers, and all U-joints were renewed. The drive shafts and differential housing were repainted, the water pump, radiator hoses and radiator were replaced, and the valve springs and bushings were renewed. The interior received new carpet and a restored dashboard, and the gauges, clock and original radio are all reported to be working. A Hurst shifter has been fitted for a more direct shift action, and the frame and bird cage show no significant rust, documented with supporting photographs. In 2022 the brakes were fitted with softer linings and braided brake hoses, and in 2024 the engine bay was cleaned and repainted. The car has been serviced annually.
The second-generation Corvette, the C2, arrived for the 1963 model year and is universally known as the Sting Ray. It introduced independent rear suspension and a dramatic new body penned under Bill Mitchell, bringing a sharper, more sculptural look to America’s sports car. The 1964 model year refined the design while retaining the purposeful proportions and hidden headlamps that make the early Sting Rays so collectible. With its small-block V8 and lightweight fibreglass body, the C2 offered genuine performance and a driving character that helped cement the Corvette’s reputation.
Today the C2 Corvette is one of the most sought-after classic American sports cars, admired for its styling, its V8 soundtrack and its place in Corvette history. This cabriolet, presented in its original white-over-red colour combination with its soft top, a well-documented ownership history and an extensive record of maintenance and mechanical work, is an appealing example of the breed.
