The seller offers for sale this 1963 Porsche 356 B Carrera 2 GS 2000, powered by a 2.0-litre air-cooled flat-four Fuhrmann quad-cam engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in silver, this Carrera 2 GS 2000 was originally sold through Porsche Zentrum Bologna and was first registered in Milano, as documented by the original data card (Datenkarte) on file. In 1984, the car was acquired by a German private collector, and a German registration document was issued in 1985. Since then it has been kept in collection storage rather than used on public roads. A replacement engine was fitted in 1987 and has covered approximately 5,000 km since installation. Standing damage has been attended to and the car is described as ready for road use. The complete documentation accompanying this car includes the original data card, the original sales brochure from new, and the original owner’s manual. The vehicle is located in Bavaria state, Germany.
The 356 B was produced by Porsche between 1959 and 1963 and represented the second major evolution of the original 356 series. Within the 356 B range, the Carrera 2 GS 2000 occupied the very top of the model hierarchy. Its defining feature was the 587/1 or 587/2 Fuhrmann engine: a 1,966 cc air-cooled flat-four unit with four overhead camshafts driven by a complex shaft-and-bevel-gear arrangement, twin ignition, and dry-sump lubrication, producing 130 PS in road-going form. This engine architecture was derived directly from Porsche’s motorsport programme and made the Carrera 2 one of the most technically sophisticated road cars of its era. Production numbers for the Carrera 2 in coupe form were very limited, making surviving examples uncommon in the collector market.
