The Mercedes-Benz W126 S-Class was produced from 1979 to 1991 and is widely regarded as one of the finest executive saloons of the twentieth century. Developed under chief engineer Bruno Sacco and engineered with an emphasis on passive safety, aerodynamic efficiency and refinement, the W126 set new standards in its class at the time of its introduction. The 500 SEL variant sat near the top of the range, combining the long-wheelbase SEL body with the M117 V8 engine producing around 240 horsepower.
